3 MUST VISIT BREWERIES IN CHICAGO

Must Visit Breweries in Chicago

Chicago is home to a thriving craft beer scene. To experience it for yourself, take a self-guided brewery tour to these 3 city staples and local favorites (all of which are located within close proximity to one and other)

Goose Island

Goose Island Brewing Co. - 3 Must Visit Breweries in ChicagoPerhaps Chicago’s best known brewery, Goose Island brews are a staple in the lives of beer drinking Chicagoans. Their 312 (pronounced three-one-two, don’t call it three twelve) has been called “every Chicagoan’s beer” and it’s worth a sample. But Goose Island’s creations go far beyond the 312, so make sure to choose a tasting flight (which includes 4 samples) and work with the bartender to make a selection that’ll allow you to experience the brewery’s range.

Goose Island offera brewery tours on Saturdays at 12:30pm, 2:00pm and 3:30pm, and on Sundays at 1:00pm and 2:30pm. Tours take take 60-90 minutes, cost $10, and includes a tasting of 6 beers and a souvenir pint glass. Make sure to reserve your spot on a tour a week in advanced by calling Goose Island at (312) 915-0071.

Revolution Brewing

Revolution Brewing is a local favorite with two locations (a brewpub and a brewery) in the city’s Bucktown neighborhood. The brewpub (pictured above) is a restaurant and bar which serves up the brewery’s creations. Of course, get a tasting flight (which includes 4 samples) and if you’re getting hungry, go for the bacon fat popcorn topped with bacon, sage, and shaved parmesan cheese.

If you’re looking to experience the brewing process and drink directly from the source, skip the brewpub and head 1.5 miles up the street to the brewery. There, free tours are offered every Wednesday through Saturday at 6:00pm, with additional Saturday tours at 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Tours are first come, first served and Revolution suggests arriving early to sign up and reserve your spot.

Piece Brewery and Pizzeria

Piece Pizzeria and Brewery - 3 Must Visit Breweries in Chicago Piece Pizzeria and Brewery - 3 Must Visit Breweries in ChicagoPiece Brewery and Pizzeria is another local favorite and should be visited as the last stop on your tour. Why last? Pizza — that’s why. Order another tasting flight (which includes 5 samples) along with a pizza to soak up the beer fueled buzz you’ve been cultivating for the past few hours. If for some strange reason you’re not here to drink beer, Piece’s renowned New Haven style pizza is reason enough to visit.

Piece does not offer brewery tours, so just sit back, relax, drink beer, eat pizza, and think about how awesome Chicago is.

TMT Recommendation:

1) Swing by Goose Island for a tasting flight.

2) Head over to the Revolution Brewing Brewery for a tour and drink in the tap room.

3) Last but not least, finish up at Piece with more beer and a pizza.

Getting Around:

Public transportation: It is possible to take public transportation to/from and between the breweries, but when it comes to getting from brewery to brewery, I’d choose one of the next two options, purely to save time.

Designated driver: Bring your friend who doesn’t drink beer and make them drive.

Uber: This is how I got around during my self-guided tour. I’m sure you know the dill by now. Get an UberX and split the fare with a few people and it’ll cost next to nothing to get from brewery to brewery.
