GEAR REPORT: FILSON’S SMALL FIELD DUFFLE
Earlier this week I spent a two nights in Napa Valley at Calistoga Ranch, an Auberge Resort.
The hour-long flight from LAX to SFO was easy, and the two-hour drive from the airport to Calistoga Ranch was beautiful. Since it was a quick trip focused mainly on leisure pursuits, I didn’t want to lug around a my rolling suitcase and a typical duffle bag would have been to bulky. So, I figured it’d be the perfect trip to test the recently released Small Field Duffle from Filson.
When I opened the box it arrived in and saw the duffle for the firs time, I though it really lived up to its name — it looked small. However, while the duffle is compact with a small footprint, its height gives this duffle a surprising capacity.

Best Uses:
Plenty of room for an overnight trip // Room for a streamlined weekend trip // A great carry-on to house your essentials if you’re checking a larger suitcase.
Vital Stats:
Material: 15-oz. oil finish Tin Cloth + matte nylon lining (abrasion-resistant + water-repellent)
Size: 18″ W x 10″ H x 11″ D
Why I Like It:
Most duffles bags on the market default to a medium or large size — it’s nice to own something smaller for streamlined trips // It’s simple, to the point and good looking to boot.
