1,004 feet long and home to 1,467 cabins able to accommodate 2,918 passengers, the Edge from Celebrity Cruises is the latest mega-ship making waves in the world of luxury cruising.

The Edge marks a new era for Celebrity Cruises, as it’s the inaugural vessel in what will become part of a new class of ships for the brand called Edge Class (Celebrity will debut a total of 3 more similar ships from 2020 to 2022). It also marks a new era in cruising overall, as Edge’s top to bottom design features countless industry-first innovations.

Built in France and currently receiving its finishing touches, the Edge will sail the Caribbean for the duration of winter starting this December. But what I’m most excited about, is where Edge will head next year.

Come May of 2019 (with its trip from Southampton, England to Rome departing May 15), the ship will have made its way to the other side of the Atlantic and be ready for a summer of cruising to incredible European destinations throughout the Mediterranean.

The Edge will be the newest and most posh ship offering Mediterranean cruises in spring and summer of 2019, so if you’ve ever dreamed of a cruise in the old world, now would be the time to start planning it.

If you’re new to cruising or haven’t cruised in awhile, ships and cruising experiences as a whole have come a long way. Today, as so many cruise ships are a destination in and of themselves, you’ll want to write home about the experience of being on the cruise ship just as much as you will about the experiences you’ll have in your ports of call.

And this will be especially true for Celebrity Cruises’ Edge, which is improving on decades of tired cruise ship design.

For starters, Edge’s interiors were designed by internationally recognized interior design superstar Kelly Hoppen — meaning, in part, you’ll feel like you’re in a high-end hotel, not a traditional cruise ship.

Architecturally, cabins have been redesigned to be airy, more open, and larger. And if you think “cramped” when you think of cruising, the Edge will make you think again as its rooms feature larger bathrooms, more storage space, and 99% of rooms will have king beds. Personally, I can already imagine lying in one of those king beds and watching as the Mediterranean coast glides by.

If you really crave extra space and want to splurge on your Mediterranean cruise, Celebrity’s Edge will have some of the most jaw-dropping suites on the sea. For starters, feast you eyes on the 2-bedroom, 2,600 square feet Iconic Suites which have 700 square foot verandas with 270-degree ocean views, or the 2-story Edge Villas which feature a large veranda with private plunge pool.

Not a bad way to get around Europe, right?

While in the Mediterranean, Celebrity Cruises’ Edge will sail mostly 10 and 11-night itineraries to some of the region’s most bucket list-worthy destinations like Santorini, Barcelona, and Monte Carlo. But you’ll also get to see some of the Mediterranean’s more up-and-coming destinations as well.

Celebrity will add three brand new ports of call in 2019 with Edge itineraries stopping in Nauplion (Nafplio), Greece; Rijeka, Croatia, and Santa Margherita, Italy (you can read more about them here).

The last sailing in the region will depart on October 21, 2019, after which the Edge will make its way back to the Caribbean — so don’t miss your chance to cruise the Mediterranean in ultimate style next year.
